Central Province Permanent Secretary, Dr Milner Mwanakampwe, has conducted spot checks on the May–June 2026 Social Cash Transfer (SCT) payments in Chibombo District to monitor the implementation of the programme and ensure that eligible beneficiaries are accessing Government support in a transparent and efficient manner.
The monitoring exercise commenced at Chiyuni Secondary School in Chitanda Ward, where beneficiaries were receiving their Social Cash Transfer payments. Dr Mwanakampwe interacted with both beneficiaries and officers from the Department of Social Welfare to appreciate the payment process and assess service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, the Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening social protection programmes aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable households across the country.
He further underscored the importance of transparency, accountability and efficiency in the implementation of the Social Cash Transfer Programme, noting that the initiative continues to play a critical role in alleviating poverty and enhancing the livelihoods of vulnerable members of society.
Dr Mwanakampwe later proceeded to Ipongo Ward, where he engaged beneficiaries to appreciate the impact of the programme on their daily lives. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Government for the continued support, stating that the funds have enabled them to meet basic household needs, including the purchase of food, access to healthcare services and payment of school-related expenses.
The Permanent Secretary also encouraged beneficiaries to utilise the funds responsibly by investing in productive activities that will improve household incomes and promote self-reliance.
According to the Department of Social Welfare in Chibombo District, a total of 17,776 beneficiaries were recruited under the Social Cash Transfer Programme in 2025, demonstrating Government’s continued commitment to expanding social protection interventions to vulnerable households.
The Social Cash Transfer Programme remains one of Government’s flagship social protection initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, improving household resilience and enhancing the well-being of vulnerable citizens.
