Chibombo District joined the rest of the country in commemorating World Environment Day at Chipeso Day Secondary School in Katuba Constituency under the theme: “Accelerating Zambia’s Climate Action for Green Growth and Sustainability.”
The commemoration brought together government departments, schools, community members and other stakeholders to raise awareness on environmental protection and the urgent need for collective action against climate change.
This year’s theme emphasises the importance of speeding up efforts to address environmental challenges while promoting economic growth that is environmentally responsible and sustainable. It highlights the need for individuals, communities, institutions and businesses to adopt practices that protect natural resources, reduce environmental degradation and build resilience to the effects of climate change.
Speaking during the event, various stakeholders encouraged members of the community to take an active role in environmental conservation through tree planting, proper waste management, sustainable agricultural practices and the protection of forests and water resources.
The commemorations also served as a reminder that climate action is not solely the responsibility of government, but a shared duty requiring the participation of every citizen. Through collective efforts, Zambia can achieve green growth that improves livelihoods while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
Activities during the event included environmental awareness campaigns, tree planting exercises and educational presentations aimed at promoting environmental stewardship among learners and community members.
As Chibombo District commemorated World Environment Day, participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Zambia.
